Levi Downs was a well known pioneer merchant in Atlantic. The Levi Downs store was located in downtown Atlantic at 5th and Chestnut. The photos on this page are from the Carl and Christine (Anderson) Petersen photo collection. Carl's father, Chris Petersen, Sr., was head clerk at the Levi Downs store from 1884-1896. Individuals in the above photo are not identified on the back of the photo itself. However, the man in the center wearing a hat appears to be Levi Downs, and the man behind the counter on the right appears to be Chris Petersen, Sr.
