I did a little looking for you and solved the mystery of what happened to Backus and Eliza Leach. Glad it worked out.

TRAGIC DEATH OF BACKUS LEACH

Falls From Wagon and Loses Life Instantly
Funeral Saturday

While riding with his son last Friday morning who was delivering oil in the Northwestern yards, the team became frightened by an engine near the coal chute and went over the track with considerable speed, throwing Mr. Leach from the seat down behind the horses the wagon passing over him, killing him instantly. The body was taken to the Kubitschek undertaking and later to the home of Jessie B. Leach on South Lincoln street.

The deceased was born at Elkhart, Ill., Sept. 6th, 1853, and his unfortunate death occurred July 17, 1914. On February 21, 1878 at Elkhart he was united in marriage to Miss Eliza Osborne and to this union six children were born, three girls and three boys, all of whom are living. The mother died in Eagle Grove, Nov. 25th, 1912. In 1902 Mr. and Mrs. Leach went to Minnesota and in 1906 came to Eagle Grove where two of the children reside, Mr. J. B. Leach and Mrs. Ed Kist.

The funeral was held at the J. B. Leach home Saturday at 4 p.m., Rev. Wilkinson of the Methodist church conducting the services. The remains were taken to Elkhart, Ill., for interment beside the wife and mother. The deceased was a member of the Methodist church, exemplary and upright in life. The bereaved relatives have the warm sympathy of all in their great affliction.
