Nonogenarian Passes Away.
On Wednesday of last week at the home of his son Ole Rustad at Nordness occurred the death of M. Martinson (Rustad) one of the oldest men of Winneshiek county. Death was due to the infirmities of old age. Mr. Martinson was born in Norway in 1821. On coming to this country he first settled in Wisconsin but after a few years moved to Highland township, this county, where he lived until a few years ago when he accompanied his son to Nordness to live. Beside his son he is survived by three other children, C. Martinson, G. Martinson and a daughter, Mrs. Berkeland of Minneapolis. The funeral was held last Saturday at the Washington Prairie church, Rev. Paul Koren officiating.Source: Decorah Republican Oct. 29, 1914, P7 C4
Mrs. Chas. Nelson went {t}o Nordness Saturday to attend the funeral of her grandfather, Ole Rustad, who formerly resided near Highlandville, but removed with his son to Nordness some years ago.
Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows this was Martin Rustad who was born Oct. 15, 1822 and died Oct. 21, 1914 which does not agree with the above.
