THE SILENT REAPER.
Two deaths occurred in Decorah last Friday, within a few hours of each other—Mrs. Elizabeth S. Broghammer and Mrs. Sarah G. Shaw.
Sarah Gossman was born April 10, 1854, at Zanesville, Ohio, and came to Winneshiek county with her parents in girlhood. She was married to E. C. Shaw at St. Benedict’s church in Decorah in 1878, and for twenty years they resided at Forest Lake, Minn., and Bluffton, Iowa. In 1898 they removed to Decorah and have since resided here. She is survived by her husband, and seven children, Mrs. Mary Driscoll, of Emery, S. D., Emma, Eugene, Amanda, Grace, Elmer and Cyril. Her brothers Clement Gossman of Bridgewater, S. D. and Chas. Gossman of Decorah, also survive. The funeral was held Monday last at St. Benedict’s church, interment being made in the Catholic cemetery.
Mrs. Shaw’s death was due to heart disease, from which she has been a sufferer for the past ten months. The sympathy of many friends go out to the family in their bereavement. She has been a devoted wife and mother and her presence in the home will be greatly missed.
