Jerry Kruchek, age 91, of Protivin, IA, died on Monday, October 6, 2014, at the Gundersen Health Center in LaCrosse, WI.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 11, 2014, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin, IA, with Rev. Nick March presiding. Burial will be in St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery, Spillville, IA. With military rites by Tri- County American Legion Post 605 of Protivin.

Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m., on Friday, Oct. 10, 2014, at the Balik Funeral Home, 211 South Main Spillville, IA, and also after 9:30 a.m., at the church on Saturday morning. There will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m., and a scripture service at 6:00 p.m., on Friday at the funeral home.

Jerry George Kruchek was born February 3, 1923 to Joseph and Adella (Shimek) Kruchek on the family farm near Spillville. Jerry attended St. Aloysius school in Calmar then St. Wenceslaus in Spillville. He then farmed with his father until he was drafted into the Marines in 1945, in 1946 he was discharged and he returned home to farm with his father. Jerry married Arlene Samec at the Holy Trinity Church in Protivin on April 14, 1948. They moved to Waterloo where Jerry worked at Rath Packing for thirty two years. In 1984 they retired to Protivin. Together they managed the senior meal site in Protivin for twenty nine years. Jerry was a Cubs fan, he enjoyed playing cards, fishing, hunting and mushroom hunting. Jerry was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Tri- County American Legion Post 605 in Protivin.

Jerry is survived by his wife: Arlene Kruchek, Protivin, IA. One son: Joe (Tina) Kruchek, Dunkerton, IA. Four grandchildren: J.J. (Stacey) Kruchek, St. James, MN; Andrea (Brian) Wehling, Sumner, IA; Leilana Kruchek, Cedar Falls, IA; and David Kruchek, Las Vegas, NV. Seven great grandchildren: Meaghan (Matt) Snyder, Gabrielle Kruchek, Elizabeth Wehling, Dylan Wehling, Christopher Wehling, D’Asia Kruchek and Haley Kruchek. Two great great grandchildren: Reily Hills and Bailee Snyder. One brother: Clarence (Diane) Kruchek, Alden, IA. Two brothers-in-law: Frank (Marion) Samec, Cedar Rapids, IA, and Art (Madonna) Samec, Jesup, IA. Sister-in-law: Mary (Frank) McConnell, Cresco, IA.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents: Joseph and Adella (Shimek) Kruchek. One daughter: Rose Mary Kruchek in 1966. One brother: George (Margaret) Kruchek. Brother-in-law: Edward Samec. One sister-in-law: Helen (Clarence) Sorensen.
