Olivette Anna (Ehret) Klinner was born on June 23, 1913, the daughter of August and Catherine (Nienhaus) Ehret, Reilly Ridge, IA. She grew up north of Lawler and attended the Iowa School of the Deaf in Council Bluffs. She met Alois Klinner through a mutual friend and they were married on October 25, 1941 in Hannibal, Missouri. They had one daughter, Ruth. Olivette was the oldest living culturally-born deaf person in Iowa and possibly in the United States. She received an honorary graduation diploma from the Iowa School for the Deaf for her 100th birthday. She was gifted a plane ride with Father Phil Gibbs that flew her over all the places she lived throughout her life. She had a sense of adventure and never missed an opportunity to try something new. She will always be remembered by the way she lit up the room with her smile. Olivette made everyone feel special that she met and she will be deeply missed.
Olivette was a member of the St. Mary’s CDA and the Decorah Town & Country Garden Club. She relished her times with deaf friends, loved dogs and flowers, and always found excitement watching WWF wrestling.
Olivette is survived by her daughter: Ruth Lynch, Decorah, IA. Six grandchildren: Christy (Kevin) Bouska, Decorah, IA; Erin (Jason) Golly, Decorah, IA; Sally (Lyle) Kriener, New Hampton, IA; Tessa Lynch, Decorah, IA; April Lynch, Decorah, IA; and Greg Lynch, Charles City, IA. Eight great grandchildren: Erica and Ally Bouska, Mary and Katie Golly, Alex, Bailey and Charlie Kriener; and Justen Larsen. Six nieces: Helen (Jack) Whalen, Bernice Cutsforth, Ardes King, Joyce (Dave) Clark, Jane (Steve) McLaughlin, and Judy (Cal) Coons.
