Matt Sindelar, 83, retired farmer, who died here at his home in Spillville on Monday afternoon, after several months of illness, were held at St. Wenceslaus Catholic church on Thursday morning at 9:30 at the home of his son-in-law and daughter Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pecka. Rev. Jos. Budura, D. D., celebrated the requiem mass. Burial was in St Wenceslaus cemetery.

Mr. Sindelar, son of Frank and Petronella Sindelar, was born in Czechoslovakia on Feb. 5, 1863, and when three and one half years old came to the United States with his parents. In 1883 he was married to Rose Silhacek, who died 7 years ago. In 1941 he was married to Mrs. Mary Klema, who survives.

Other survivors are eight children of his first marriage, four daughters, Mrs. Mary Stika, Potivin{sp}, and Mrs. Philip (Celia) Hayek, Mrs. Frank (Rose) Pecka and Mrs. Jos. (Barbara) Vitousek, of Spillville, and four sons, Frank Sindelar, Protivin; Chas and Mike Sindelar, Spillville and Jos. Sindelar, Lawler, one brother, James J. Sindelar, Spillville.

Besides his wife he was preceded by two sons, one who died in infancy and John Sindelar, who passed away several years ago. He also leaves 23 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Mr. SIndealr{sp} was a faithful member of the St. Wenceslaus Catholic church. He received the last rites of his religion from the Rev. Budura. He will be greatly missed by his wife and children.

The members of the Catholic Workman of which the deceased was a member attended services in a body. Pallbearers were Louis, John, Vaclav and Gust Sindelar, Edw. and Raymond Hayek, all grandsons of the deceased.

The funeral was largely attended. Those from a distance attending the funeral were Mike Sindelar and daughters Olga and Angela, and son Leo of Cedar Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Sindelar and Mrs. Clarence Vsetecka of Protivin, Adolph Hayek, Cresco and Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Balk and family of Waucoma.
