Joseph Stadle

The death of Joseph Stadle occurred on the morning of January 19, 1940, after a lingering illness of several years duration, at the age of 72 years. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Stadle and was born at St. Lucas, Nov. 4, 1867. During the early years of his life he lived at Langdon, N. D., where he was employed as a store clerk and later as a bookkeeper for the Jacob Binder Co. In 1907 he came to Spillville where he was employed at the Haug Heuser stores, now the Haug Dept. Stores, in which capacity he remained for more than twenty years. He retired due to ill health in 1933.

On January 7, 1908, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Triska at the St. Wenceslaus church by Rev. J. P. Broz. To this union, one son, Irvin Jr., was born, who lives in Decorah. Besides the widow and son he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Barbara Sieh of Minneapolis and Mrs. Charles Kapinos of Canute, Okla. He was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Stadle and a sister, Mrs. Mary Kapinos.

Mr. Stadle was well and favorably known as an honest and upright citizen and a very peaceful neighbor. The funeral services were held Tuesday at 10 o’clock, January 23, at the St. Wenceslaus church with the Rev. V. J. Hlubek officiating at a requiem high mass and also delivering the sermon. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery. The many beautiful floral tributes were evidence of the high esteem in which the deceased was held.
