Charles Spalla

Funeral services for Charles Spalla, formerly of Ridgeway, who passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Clem Hackman in Waucoma Thursday after a lingering illness, were held Saturday morning at St. Wenceslaus church in Spillville. Burial was made in the cemetery adjoining the church. Pall Bearers were Henry Rothmeyer, W. J. Benda, Joe Malek, Jas. Kreitzer, Joe Phillips and Frank Lentz.

Mr. Spalla, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Spalla was born at Conover, Ia., Dec. 15, 1874. At the age of two months his parents moved to a farm near Ridgeway where he has lived since, until last fall when he and his wife moved to Waucoma to make their home with their son-in-law and daughter Mr. and Mrs. Clem Hackman.

Jan. 17, 1905 he was united in marriage to Miss Rose Benda who with the following children mourn his departure; Carl of Ridgeway, Mae, Mrs. Clem Hackman, of Waucoma, Joe of Ridgeway, Christina, Mrs. Paul Jirak, and Alois of Ft. Atkinson. He is also survived by one grandchild, Betty Ann Jirak of Ft. Atkinson, one brother, Frank Spalla, of Plaza, N. D., and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Kryson of Calmar and Mrs. Henry Rothmeyer of Festina.

Among those from a distance who attended the funeral services were John Spalla Jr. of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rothmeyer and family of Festina; Mr. and Mrs. Florian Rothmeyer, Mrs. Mary Kryson, Mr. and Mrs. Philip Gerleman, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kryson of Calmar, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Benda and family, Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Ondrasek, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Pecinovsky, Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Kreitzer, Mrs. Barbara Vrba of Cresco, Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Malek of Schley, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Berka of Maple Leaf, Mrs. Herman Hackman and Mr. and Mrs. Anton Hackman of St. Lucas and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Pecinovsky of Lawler.

Much sympathy is extended to the family in the loss of a kind and loving husband and father and to the many friends and relatives who will miss him sadly.
