Francis Novak

Funeral services for Francis Novak, 57, well known farmer of near Spillville were held here Thursday morning at 10 o’clock at St. Wenceslaus church with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. V. J. Hlubek offered the Requiem Mass and also conducted the grave-side service. The deceased was born on a farm near Spillville in 1880, and was married to Ludmilla Dostal of Little Turkey about 35 years ago. Following their marriage they settled on a farm about two miles southwest of Spillville where he passed away. Mr. Novak had been in poor health for several months but was able to be out with his family and friends Monday evening, Aug. 16, when he died quite suddenly at 10 o’clock. Survivors include his widow, four daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Mary) Tupy, Christina, Helen and Ludmila; two sons, John and Louis. He also leaves his aged mother, Mrs. Mary Novak and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Leosch, Spillville, and Mrs. Louis Houdek of Protivin and two grandchildren. The Catholic Workmen of which he was a member and the Sokol lodge attended the funeral in a body. The concert band of which he was director, rendered several farewell numbers before and after services at the church. The funeral was largely attended.

Submitter’s Note: The name Leosch should probably be spelled Loesch ; therefore, both spellings are listed in surnames.
