Mrs. Joseph E. Malek
Funeral services for Mrs. Joseph E. Malik, who passed away at her home near Ridgeway, Friday, Jan. 19, 1945, were held at St. Wenceslaus Catholic church, Spillville, at 10:30 o’clock Monday, January 22. Rev. Alphonse Biskup officiated. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
Barbara Pecka was born Aug. 20, 1884, in Calmar, Ia., the daughter of the late Wenceslaus and Mary Pecka. She grew to womanhood in Winneshiek county. She was united in marriage with Joseph E. Malek, June 4, 1907, in St. Wenceslaus church in Spillville. They lived on a farm in Howard county until January, 1921, when they moved to the farm near Ridgeway where she passed away.
Five children were born to this union. They are: Ralph, at home; Clarence, of Sumner twp.; Mrs. Walter (Evelyn) Scholl, Rockwell, Ia.; Louise, at home, and Helen who preceded her in death seven years ago. Besides her husband, and children, she is also survived by four sisters: Mrs. Jos. (Anna) Phillips, Spillville; Mrs. Charles (Albina) Kovarik, Ft. Atkinson; Mrs. M. V. (Mary) Zbornik, Fort Atkinson; Mrs. Adolph (Otilla) Frana, Calmer; one brother, Frank Pecka of Spillville and three grandchildren, also many relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were nephews of the deceased, Jerome and Stanley Phillips, Ben and Victor Kovarik, Arthur and Leonard Frana.

We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to Rev. Alphonse Biskup, choir, pallbearers, Mr. Balik and everyone who so kindly assisted us during the illness and death of our beloved wife and mother. Also for the many spiritual offerings and donations of food.
