Mrs. Joseph Benesh

This community was again saddened on Tuesday morning when the church bell softly tolled, announcing the death of Mrs. Joseph Benesh, who passed peacefully away at her home in Spillville after an illness of more than a year. The deceased was confined to her bed and wheelchair since August, 1938, and from that time on she gradually failed until the angel of death called her to her heavenly home. She bore her sufferings with Christian fortitude and patience and died well fortified by the last rites of the Catholic church. The thought that she was well prepared for death is a great consolation to the bereaved ones who find much solace and comfort in this. Elenore Valenta was one of a family of 10 children, she was a daughter of Frank and Marie Valenta and was born in Spillville on June 19, 1881. She was married to Joseph Benesh in the year 1902 at St. Wenceslaus church. Three children were born to this union: Richard of Oran and Marcella and Victor at home. Besides her widower and children she is survived by four brothers, Frank Valenta of Larkin, N. D., Louis Valenta of Dubuque and Joseph and Victor Valenta of Detroit, and her twin sisters, Mrs. Walter Munkel of Lime Springs and Mrs. James Krall of Calmar. One grandson, Richard Benesh, Jr., also survives her. Her parents, two sisters and one brother preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held at the St. Wenceslaus church at Spillville on Thursday morning at 9 o’clock. Rev. V. J. Hlubek officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers were her two uncles, Louis and James Benda, a cousin, Frank Valenta and friends, Joseph Ptachek, James Triska and Adolph Ira. Mrs. Benesh was greatly interested in her home and family. This devotion and thoughtfulness she had for others will be the cherished memory of her family and friends. Sincere sympathy is extended to the bereaved ones.

Those from a distance who came to attend the funeral were Joseph and Victor Valenta, Detroit; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Valenta, Dubuque; Mrs. Loana Norris and daughters, Marguerite and Kathryn and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Benesh, all of St. Paul; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Munkel and sons of Lime Springs; Mr. and Mrs. Manvitis Bena of Davenport; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Benesh, Oran; Mr. and Mrs. Will Drew and daughter, and Julian, and Marjorie Hove, Ridgeway; Mr. and Mrs. Milton Sjulli, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bena, Mrs. Mary Hruska and Robert Shevik of Calmar; Frank and Nora Valenta of Protivin; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Shindelar and son Stanley of Ft. Atkinson.
