Agnes Shindelar, age 87, of Spillville, Iowa, died on Sunday, November 22, 2009, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah, Iowa.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, November 25, 2009, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, Iowa, with Rev. Donald Hawes presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Balik Funeral Home in Spillville and also after 10:00 a.m. at the Funeral Home on Wednesday morning. There will be a rosary at 4:00 and a scripture service at 5:00.
Agnes Anna (Ondrashek) Shindelar was born on June 5, 1922, the daughter of William and Stella (Pavlovec) Ondrashek, on the family farm near Fort Atkinson, Iowa. Agnes attended country school near Fort Atkinson. She married Jerome Shindelar on October 27, 1948, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson, Iowa. Together they farmed south of Spillville, until moving into Spillville, in 1973. Agnes was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Agnes enjoyed her flowers, baking, scrapbooking and taking care of her nieces and nephews.
Agnes’ survivors include her one sister: Dorothy Neuzil, Spillville, IA. Two brothers: Edward (Anna) Ondrashek, Spillville, IA and Donald (Nancy) Ondrashek, Fort Atkinson, IA. One sister-in-law: Rita Shindelar, West Union, IA, along with many nieces and nephews
Agnes was preceded in death by her parents: William and Stella (Pavlovec) Ondrashek. Her husband: Jerome Shindelar on November 14, 1993. One sister: Adeline Mihm on February 8, 1989. Seven brothers-in-law: August Neuzil November on 30, 1978, Art Mihm on April 20, 1993, Jerry Shindelar, Daniel Shindelar, Cyril Jestrab, Frank Frana and Jim Frana. Five sisters-in-law: Mary Shindelar in infancy, Regina Frana and Margaret Jestrab, Adella Frana and Rosa Shindelar.
