Ludmilla Humpal, age 95 of rural Calmar died Wednesday July 15, 2009 at the Regional Health Center in Cresco after a short illness.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2009, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, IA, with Rev. Donald Hawes presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call on Friday, July 17, 2009, at the Balik Funeral Home in Spillville from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 5:00 p.m. and a scripture service at 6:00 There will also be visitation after 10:00 at the church on Saturday
Ludmilla Lu (Kuboushek) Humpal was born on October 24, 1913, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Bily) Kuboushek on the family farm near Spillville, Iowa. Ludmilla attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic School, when she was young, she enjoyed going jackrabbit hunting with her brother, Jim. She married Adolph Humpal on October 3, 1938, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Together they farmed west of Spillville for many years. Ludmilla enjoyed cooking, gardening, quilting, doing farm work, and being outside. She enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Iowa State Cyclones play basketball and all-star wrestling. Above all, Ludmilla loved and cherished her family. Ludmilla was a lifetime member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and was an active Guild member.
Ludmilla’s survivors include her daughter: Lorraine Humpal, Calmar, IA. Four sons: Lester (Edith) Humpal, Calmar, IA; Adolph Jr. (Miriam) Humpal, Protivin, IA; Cletus (Maxine) Humpal, Ridgeway, IA and Roger Humpal, Calmar, IA. Two brothers-in-law: Stanley (Kay) Humpal, Decorah, IA and Rudolph (Rita) Humpal Decorah, IA. Fourteen grandchildren: Lana (Kevin) Duff, Donna (Michael Pash) Humpal, Lester (Ann) Humpal, Richard (Tammy) Humpal, Lawerence (Rebecca) Humpal, Theresa (Steve Jeandron) Katherine Humpal, Kenneth (Khristine) Humpal, Deborah Humpal, Jennifer (Mike) Reicks, Ann (Brent) Schmitt, Laurie (Martin) Ahrndt, Sara (Dennis) Bakula, and Amy (fiancé, Cole Hoscheit) Humpal as well as thirty great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
Ludmilla was preceded in death by her parents: Frank and Mary Kuboushek. Her husband: Adolph Humpal on August 20, 1972. One sister: Mary Sobolik. Three brothers: James, Joseph and Charles Kuboushek
