Four persons were killed and one critically injured in a head-on automobile collision on a country road two miles east and three-fourths mile north of Castalia on Thanksgiving morning.

The dead are Arthur Rudolph Meyer, 30, Castalia; Miss Marie Freda Meyer, 16, Castalia; Mrs. Alvin Meyer, 56; Castalia; Robert William Wagner, 21, Ossian. Ruth Elaine Green of Castalia was critically injured in the accident and brought to the Postville hospital. Her condition is reported good today.

The Meyers (sic) family had been at Thanksgiving services at St. Paul's Lutheran Church and were on their way home. Miss Marie Meyer was driving. Wagner and Miss Green were going south as the Meyers were coming north. They met at the top of a hill. The road was narrow and both cars were in the middle of the road, authorities said. The Meyers were killed almost instantly in their car. Wagner died at the Postville hospital at 3:15 p.m. Thursday.

Funeral services were held Sunday at St. Paul's for the Meyers with Rev. Frederick R. Ludwig conducting the rites. Burial was in the Postville cemetery. Color guards from the American Legion and the Veterans of Forengn Wars were present at the funeral. Final rites for Robert Wagner were held in Ossian on Monday.

Wilhelmina Maria Kuhse Meyer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kuhse, was born March 1, 1891 at Guttenberg, Iowa, and departed this life suddenly in consequence of an accident near her late home in Bloomfield Township, Winneshiek county, November 25, aged 57 years.

Mrs. Meyer was united in marriage with Alvin D. Meyer of Postville on September 28, 1915 by the late Pastor E. Schmidt. To this union five children were born, three of whom survive the passing of their mother. Except for the earliest years of her life, Mrs. Meyer spent her entire earthly life as a resident of this section of northeast Iowa.

Left to mourn her passing are three children: Willard A. Meyer of Postville, Orville V. Meyer of Castalia and Margaret, Mrs. Vernon Kugel of Monona; seven grandchildren; one sister, Bertha, Mrs. E.H. Brandt, of Clermont; three brothers: Fred Kuhse of Postville, Rudolph Kuhse of Farmersburg, and Will Kuhse of Monona.

Mrs. Meyer was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin D. Meyer, who died suddenly on May 26, 1947; by her parents, by three sisters: Mrs. Anna Hoffman, Mrs. Frieda Mecklenburg, and Mrs. Augusta Bareis.

Arthur Rudolph Arno Meyer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin D. Meyer, was born June 2, 1918, in Winneshiek county, and died suddenly November 25, 1948 near his late home in Bloomfield Township, Winneshiek county, aged 30 years.

Arthur served with distinction in the armed forces of his country during the late war for almost four years, entering the service in January 1942 and discharged in October 1945. He served his contry for three years in the South Pacific war theatre and in the Quadalin Islands. For meritorious service he was awarded the Silver Star Award.

Aside from the time spent in the armed forces, Arthur was a resident of this section of northeast Iowa throughout his life.

Left to mourn his passing are his two brothers: Willard A. of Postville, and Orville V. of Castalia; one sister, Margaret, Mrs. Vernon Kugel, of Monona; and his grandmother, Mrs. Eda Meyer of Postville. Arthur was preceded in death by his father.

Marie Frieda Hannah Meyer, daughter of Alvin D. Meyer and Wilhelmina Kuhse Meyer, was born June 22, 1932 in Bloomfield township, Winneshiek county, and died suddenly November 25, 1948 in consequence of an accident near her home, aged 16 years.

Marie spent her entire earthly llife as a resident of the home farm in Bloomfield township.

Left to mourn her passing are two brothers: Willard A. of Postville, and Orville V. of Castalia; one sister, Margaret, Mrs. Vernon Kugel, of Monona; her grandmother, Mrs. Eda Meyer of Postville; and numerous other relatives and friends. Marie was preceded in death by her father.
