Alvin D. Meyer Passes Monday While At Work. Well Known Farmer Is Stricken In Field; Rites To Be Thursday.

Alvin D. Meyer, 53, well known farmer living west of Postville, was found dead in a field on his farm shortly after noon Monday. He had gone out with a tractor and harrow to resume work after dinner and a short time later members of his family found him lying in the field. A doctor and the coroner were summoned and they pronounced his death due to natural causes.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon, at 1:30 in the home and at 2:00 in St. Paul's Lutheran church in this city, with the Rev. Frederick R. Ludwig conducting. Interment will be in Postville cemetery.

Alvin David John Meyer was born July 10, 1893, at Springfield, south of Postville, as the oldest son of William C. and Eda Reincke Meyer. He attended the schools in his district and grew to manhood in this community.

He was married to Minnie Kuhse of Postville September 28, 1915, and to this union five children were born, Willard, Arthur, Orville, Margaret (Mrs. Vernon Kugel) and Marie, all living in this community, who with Mrs. Meyer survive. He is also survived by his aged mother, Mrs. Eda Meyer, and three brothers, Victor and Milo Meyer of Postville and Clarence Meyer of Rock Island, Ill. His father and one brother, Arno, passed away a number of years ago.

Until about 20 years ago Mr. Meyer operated the home farm south of town. The family then purchased the former Fred J. Martens place west of Postville and this had been his home since.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church, having been baptized by the late Rev. F. H. Schumann and confirmed April 12, 1908, by the late Rev. R. Kuehne.
