Lauretta A. Barta, age 88, of Fort Atkinson, Iowa, died on Monday, October 9, 2006, at the Winneshiek Medical Center, Decorah, IA, following a short illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 12, 2006, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson, Iowa, with Rev. David Beckman, officiating. Burial will be in St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery, Spillville, Iowa.

Friends may call from 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, Chekal Chapel, in Ft. Atkinson, Iowa, and until 10:00 a.m. Thursday morning. There will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a scripture service at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Lauretta A. (Schwade) Barta was born on February 22, 1918, the daughter of William and Ludmilla (Taylor) Schwade on the family farm, between Spillville and Fort Atkinson. Lauretta attended country school west of Fort Atkinson. She married Paul Barta on September 7, 1943 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, Iowa. Together they farmed and raised their family near Fort Atkinson. Lauretta enjoyed baking, gardening, playing cards, visiting with friends and taking care of her family. They retired and moved into Fort Atkinson in 1982. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and the Ladies Guild.

Lauretta’s survivors include her two daughters: Patricia (Jack) Lynch, Lawler, IA and Norma Barta, North Liberty, IA. One son: Jim Barta, Plainfield, IA. Five grandchildren: Greg (Eileen) Lynch, Mike Lynch, Matt Lynch, Laura (Steve) Stallsmith and Dawn (Stu) Downes. Six great grandchildren: Torey, Haley & Conner Stallsmith; Carson & Reagan Downes and Kirk Lynch. Three sisters: Mildred (Raymond) Riehle, Spillville, IA, Doris (Leonard) Macal, Cresco, IA and Rita Kuehner, St. Lucas, IA. Two brothers: Lynn (Delores) Schwade, Cresco, IA and Ermin Schwade, Gahanna, OH. One sister-in-law: Joan Schwade, Protivin, IA.

Lauretta was preceded in death by her parents: William and Ludmilla Schwade; her husband: Paul on Sept. 24, 1999; one brother: Eugene Schwade; one sister-in-law: Mary Schwade; and one brother-in-law: Leonard Kuehner.
