Melvin Clarence Zahasky

Melvin Zahasky, 75, of Spillville, died Sunday, May 13, 2001, at the Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wis., following a short illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial service was held Tuesday, May 15 at 11 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, with Rev. Donald Hawes officiating.

Organist Doris Thompson and soloist Dan Silhacek provided music. Musical selections included "On Eagle's Wings," 'Be Not Afraid," "How Great Thou Art" and "Battle Hymn of the Republic."

Casket bearers were Jeff Zahasky, Chad Zahasky, Alan Zahasky, Jim Zahasky, Tony Zahasky and Danny Sobolik.

Interment was at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery in Spillville, with Balik Funeral Home of Spillville handling arrangements.

Melvin Clarence Zahasky was born Feb. 23, 1926, the son of William and Rose (Strnad) Zahasky, of rural Protivin.

He attended country school in Winneshiek County, and served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a truck driver for Bucheit Produce in Calmar for many years.

He married Lucille Sobolik May 1, 1950 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville.

They lived in Conover, and Melyin Zahasky enjoyed fishing, watching ball games, woodworking and his family. In 1996, they moved to Spillville.

Melvin Zahasky was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and the Calmar American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille Zahasky of Spillville; a son, Larry and Barb Zahasky of Decorah and three grandchildren.

Melvin Clarence Zahasky was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Joe Zahasky.

Funeral services for Melvin Zahasky of Spillville were held 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 15, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville. Rev. Donald Hawes officiated. Interment was in St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery in Spillville. Pallbearers were: Jeff Zahasky, Chad Zahasky, Alan Zahasky, Jim Zahasky, Tony Zahasky, and Danny Sobolik. Balik Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
