After a little more research I believe the following:

Bernard Keegan was the son of John Keegan and Bridget Congrass (spelling of last name is probably wrong). John Keegan was born abt 1837 in Ireland and died between 1872 and 1880. Bridget was born abt 1846 in Ireland.

John Keegan and Bridget Congrass were married 1 Nov 1863 in Henry County, Iowa. They appear in the 1870 Henry County census living in Mt. Pleasant with sons Bernard, born abt 1864 and Thomas, born abt 1868.

The 1880 census shows Bridget Keegan, widow, living in Mt. Pleasant with sons Bernard, aged 16, Thomas, aged 12, Marne, aged 9, and Catherine, aged 7.

May want to have someone in Henry and Van Buren Counties do some lookups for you. Good Luck.
