David -
I think I can add to Harold Jamison's notes...
When I was in high school in the mid-1980's, a friend and I worked on a school-oriented project for National History Day. The project revolved around the history of Cantril and the railroad. At the time, we "interviewed" Eva Cretcher - as she had been a long-time resident of the town. Mrs Cretcher was a wealth of information and a wonderful woman to chat with. Thanks in part to her, our project was quite successful. We won both a local competition and a state level competition in Des Moines, which in turn sent us on to a national competition in Washington DC! It was a fantastic journey for 2 young boys from Iowa!
Eva Cretcher passed away in 1986 and is buried in Maple Grove Cemetery outside Cantril. I graduated from high school the same year and have since moved away. I wish we still had the history project itself, but of course as youth, we did not appreciate the importance of those things for later in life.
I believe Eva's husband was George. He passed away in 1961.
Now - with regards to Dorcas Cretcher - I do happen to have a copy of the Maple Grove Cemetery inscription booklet - and can pass along this information:
CRETCHER, Dorcas J. (17 Feb 1821 - 29 Mar 1893) - Maiden Name HOOK
Sharing the same gravestone:
CRETCHER, Jabez (12 Jan 1815 - 16 Mar 1899)
There are 4 additional CRETCHER burials directly next to Dorcas and Jabez (including a daughter). Let me know if any of these might interest you - and I will relay the details.
Hopefully some of this has been of help. Kudos to Mr Jamison, too. I have learned that he is also a wealth of historical information regarding the Cantril area.
