I have just located this thread of emails concerning Whitlocks in SE Iowa. I have learned that I am descended from Frederick Wittelacke who emigrated to the US around 1838. First to Dayton, Ohio, then St. Louis, and settling in Van Buren County the town of Farmington. I have a copy of his Deed for Homestead dated December 1, 1841. The name on the deed is now Whitlock and I have no idea when it was Anglasized. Frederick died in 1848 near Farmington.
My lineage is through his fifth child, Charles Whitlock, who was born in Germany in 1834. Charles lived in West Point, Iowa. He had one child (Henry W.)with his first wife Anna Wurster who emigrated from Ohio with her parents as a child. I assume that Anna passed away after 6 years of marriage and Charles married for a second time to Barbara Strohm a native of Germany. This couple had 6 children, one of which was Edward Charles Whitlock who was my Great Grandfather. We have located an article via the internet that looks like they must be pages from a book titled "Lee County" that provided history of various founders from the area. I do not see that I can attach any of this documentation to this site but would be pleased and interested to share what I have to other potential "cousins" via email.
