Hello,
I'm writing on behalf of my father.
Dad was born in Grand Falls, NB Canada, near the border to Maine, very close to Loring Air Force Base in December 1943. As is a common story in the area, my grand mother met a soldier, got pregnant, and shortly thereafter, he shipped off to war, never to be seen or heard from again. It being the 40's, the shame involved in such a situation led to great secrecy on my grandmothers part. My father was placed for adoption, and they reunited when I was very young. Before she passed away, she told us that my dad's father's name was Dale Brown. This name, and that he was an American Casualty of WWII are all we know.
So, in searching through Google and the National Archives, I found your site, mentioning Gold Star Boy, Staff Sgt. Dale S. Brown of Van Buren County, Iowa, and wondered if perhaps we hadn't found our man.
Can you please direct me as to where to seek out further information about Dale S. Brown's tour of Duty, if he would have shipped off to Europe from Maine, and if so, does he have living relatives in Van Buren County that I could contact for more information?
Any information you could provide would be deeply appreciated.
Sincerely yours,
Nanette Soucy
