Ancestry.com shows a Dale S. Brown in the 1925 and 1930 census, the son of Paul S. and Florence Brown. Ancestry also has a World War casualty listing for a Dale S. Brown from Van Buren County. It does not show from where he deployed from but it may be of some help. Perhaps someone else viewing your query can provided additional info and help.
