In Response To: Cantril Cemetery (Gail Brown)

Hi Gail -

I believe Watkins Cemetery is also called "Landess / Watkins" and can be found here:

http://iavanburen.org/cemeteries_locations.htm

I am not familiar with a Willet Cemetery; however, there was a "hamlet" called Willits (sometimes misspelled Willets) that once existed in Vernon Township (Section 1). It appears on my 1897 platt map. Reference can be found here:

http://iavanburen.org/placenamesvbcv2.htm

There are also surnames buried in VB County by the name of Willits and Willetts.

Do you have any names available from the 1936 DAR data that could be checked against the VB County burial surname index? Perhaps one could figure out if Willets Cemetery has another name. Of course, what would really be fascinating is to discover an unknown cemetery.

I'm wondering if Cantril Cemetery is just a reference to Maple Grove, which is the only cemetery I know of that is very near Cantril? I grew up in Cantril and can think of no other nearby cemeteries. Again - any names from the 1936 DAR?

Good luck!
Steven

P.S. Curious... What do you intend to do with the map you're working on?
