No query- except I would like to go back even further on this (Greef) side of the family. I pasted in the last query and have put in double square brackets [[additons]] and details that my mother (Ralph Greef's daughter) accumulated. I doubt I could find the paper work to back it up but I am betting that it is fairly accurate.
I do have some information about the Greef family for you. I
have been in touch with 4th generation Greef family members.
Adolphus Greef [[I show he was born 18 Feb 1805 and died 28 Sep 1875]] was married to Johanna Maria Stein [[whom I show being born 8 Nov 1792]], they immigrated from Prussia. Their children were Marie Koch (who, by the way, married her
half-brother William Stein), Herman Frederick [[who I show born on 2 Nov 1827 in Rhinish, Prussia, Germany and died on 6 Dec 1877 in Bentonsport, Iowa]] (who married Rosalia
Pfeiffer) [[I show this marriage on 21 Sep 1850]], Emily (who married Karl Wilhelm Pfeiffer, the brother of
Rosalia), Juliana (who died at 2 years old), and Julius (who married
Catherine Kline, an adopted child of the Mason family).
Herman and Rosalia were married in St. Louis, Missouri in [[21 Sep]] 1850. Their
children were Emily, Charles Edward, Rosina, Otto, Frederick W., Albert H.,
George, and Maude. All were born in Bentonsport, Iowa.
Charles Edward married Eda Day, and after Eda died he married Susie
Hill.
Herman built the Greef General Store in Bentonsport in 1851. It was so
successful that he added on to it twice. When his brother, Julius, joined
him in 1855, it was renamed "Greef and Brother". Then Julius started the
Bank. Isaac Pergrin joined them in 1870. Herman died in 1876 and his son,
Frederick, joined the family business.
