The census actually states Mary was born in OH, not IA in 1819. I am tied to this family through a son Thomas Christy who married my ancester Sarah Caroline Johnson. And Thomas's sister Mary Jane Christy married Sarah Johnson's brother William James Johnson Jr. You will find several obits and other documents on this forum about these families.

I am not aware of what the BOYD connection is. However, my records show that the Elizabeth Christie shown in the census you sight was really named Elizabeth Boyd Christy and never married. See her obits at:

You'll note that the obit says her mother died in 1847.

Early marriage records state that James Christy in 1848 married a Mary Ann BOYD. So the children listed are probably hers from an earlier marriage.

I'd love to know the connection too and it's odd that James Christy had a daughter with the middle name BOYD and also married a younger lady with the last name of BOYD.
