From the Nevada Evening Journal Centennial Edition -- June 13, 1953, Vol. 59, No. 64, Page 11
Original article published April 22, 1907

McCallsburg -- C. E. Elzy of Nevada, the man who has the contract for the Warren-McCallsburg drain, has his machinery on the ground and has commenced the work. The ditch starts north of here and runs east for a distance of about three miles. While the excavation at the west end of the proposed drain will not be heavy the cut at the east end will be quite deep. It is feared by many that quick sand will be struck while going through what is known as the big pond, and if this is the case the finishing of the ditch will be a matter of considerable speculation. The contractor, Mr. Elzy, is a man highly competent, well experienced and will do the work as quickly as the proper sort of apparatus will warrant. Power to drag the big ditcher will be furnished by a thirty horse-power traction engine.
