It seems to me that there should have been some notice of his death in the area newspapers in any case. He'd lived there for decades, he still owned land there (I found a notice that some land from his estate was sold in September of 1915), but I guess I might never find out why there was not. Fairview is only a few miles away from Rock Valley - I suppose I should make some inquiries there also. Thanks so much for your efforts on my behalf.
