In Response To: Meiernandorf family (Mike Smith)

I have found the marriage record of Anna Mary Nandorf and Bernard Schmidt. As you see the marriage name is Nandorf. Bk 2 pate 84 of Sioux County marriages. Bernard Schmidt a farmer 26 yrs, born in Wisconsin to Christian Schmidt and Christine Kreling married Anna Mary Nandorf 21, bron at Hanover Germany to Henry Nandorf (no mother mentioned) married at Ireton on Mar 21, 1901, Fred Kluter and Anna Hiedbrink were witnessed and Hugh Grimm Lutheran pastor performed the marriage.
The gravestone says Grandmother Meiernandorf 1810 - 1885. It is in the Heinrich Meiernandorf lot, but I don't see a stone for him or Catharine.
They were members of the St. John's Lutheran church rural Ireton. You may wish to write to that church for membership records, maybe they would have more on what happened to Heinrich and Catherine. Since they only had one reported daughter, it is very likely they followed her family to the next destinations.
In 1908 in the Sioux County Atlas Heinrich Meiernandorf owned land in Center township section 35, 240 acres and a parcel in adjacent Reading township.
In Ancestry.com and other data basis found the names Meiernandorf and Nandorf but no dates names that matches these people. The similiar names were mostly from Westfalen Germany area.
I did find the family in the 1900 Sioux County IA census for Center Township, the name was grossly misspelled as Maearendorf?? Henry b. Jun 1850, married 20 yrs born in Germany, came in 1883. Parents born in Germany also.
Wife Kathina? b. Aug 1855 in Germany.
Daughter Marie b. Feb 1882 18 yrs.
Do you have more info on where the Schmidts went to? I don't see them in the cemetery records either. There are so many Schmidt's in the data basis so hard to find anything. Hoped I have helped somewhat.
