CLARA A. SMITH

Clara A. Smith, 85, of Newton, a native of Malcom, died Monday, Sept. 21, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton, with the Rev. Robert A. Shaw, pastor of the Newton United Pentecostal Church, officiating. Burial was in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and left at the funeral home.

She was the daughter of Robert and Anna *Buckno Spading and was born Aug. 30, 1907, in Malcom. She attended Malcom schools.

She was married to Floyd Smith Jan. 1, 1926, in Tama. The couple farmed near Colfax until retiring to Newton in 1974.

Surviving are two sons, Richard R. of Columbus, Ga., and Roger K. of Newton; one daughter, Ruth Arlene Van Dyke of Cedar Rapids; one granddaughter; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ella Graham of Grinnell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Floyd Jr.; a brother, Robert Spading; and a sister, Mabel McKeag.
