Hey Dick, you do good work! Finding Spenger was very clever. I was coming up with the same family theory but was getting hung up with the 1870 census.

Christine, you might want to check out the divorce file between Sherman and Minne. It is file # 7331 dated 1901 on microfilm reel C-35 that is on file at the Muscatine County Clerks' Office. (see Divorce Records index on the Muscatine site) Copies are fifty cents per page.

Minnie was noted as born in IL in the 1895 IA State census. Maybe the divorce papers will give a clue as to where she was living at that time.

I wasn't able to find her in the 1905 IA State Census so either she remarried or moved out of state.
