Former Area Man Accident Victim - Word has been received of the death of John Everett Wherry of McIntire, a native of Melbourne.
Wherry was killed October 28 in a tractor accident near his home in McIntire. Services were held Thursday in LeRoy, MN. Burial was in the Wayne Cemetery at McIntire.
Born June 14, 1909 at Melbourne he was the son of Frank and Maude Wherry. He grew up in the Plymouth, Kensett, Nora Springs and McIntire communities and on Nov. 18, 1936, he was married to Elizabeth Lucas of State Center.
Surviving are his widow; two sons, Everett Galen of LeRoy, MN and Teddy Lucas, stationed with the U.S. Air Force in England, and two grandchildren.
Other surviors include three sisters and three brothers, Mrs Frances Mulcahy, Melbourne; Mrs Harvey Erbe, Floyd; Mrs John Erbe, Cabool, MO; Loran, Waterloo; Ralph, Osage, and Harley, LeRoy, MN.
His parents and a brother, Ebben, preceded him in death.

Everett Wherry killed in Tractor Accident--
Everett Wherry, 53-year old McIntire, Iowa farmer was killed almost instantly early Sunday afternoon when the tractor and combine he was operating rolled into a ditch.
The accident occurred about 12:30 p.m. as Wherry, who farms near LeRoy, was towing a combine behind a tractor along a gravel road about three miles north of McIntire, just south of the Iowa-Minnesota border.Mrs. Wherry was following him in a truck.
The Mitchell County sheriff's office believes Wherry lost control of the tractor when the combine struct the branch of a tree. The tractor swerved into the ditch, throwing him and tipping the tractor on his head. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Dr. M. P. Morse of LeRoy.
