Osage – Relatives here received word Tuesday of the death of Will Starr, at his home Monday afternoon in Santa Monica, California.
Mr. Starr had been in poor health the past year. The body will not be brought back here for burial.
Mr. Starr for many years operated the Starr Ice Cream Company with his brother, Roscoe Starr.
Surviving are his widow and five children.

Year's Illness, Cancer,
at Santa MonicaA veteran Osage business man, William J. Starr, passed away November 30, at Santa Monica, Calif., where he had lived since retiring from business in Osage and moving west some years ago. He had been ill for more than a year, suffering from cancer.
Burial was made at Santa Monica.
Mr. Starr is survived by his widow; three daughters, Emma and Dr. Ella Starr, Santa Monica, and Mrs. Josephine Wertz, Chicago; and two sons, Dr. Earl Starr, Jamestown, North Dakota, and Dr. Hugh Starr, Onawa, Iowa. A brother, Roscoe Starr, Banning, California, also survives.
For many years Mr. Starr was in business in Osage. First as an ice cream and candy manufacturer and retailer; later establishing, with his brother, Roscoe, the ice cream factory, which has since been purchased by Walter McCoy.
He and his family were among the stronger supporters of the Baptist church, prominent in all affairs of the church, and in school affairs of Osage.
William Jesse Starr
William Jesse Starr was born near Monticello, Iowa, August 26, 1864. At the age of 16 he united with the Baptist church at Prairie Hill, Jones county, Iowa. He moved to Fayette county when nineteen years of age, where he joined the Baptist Church at Strawberry Point. He attended Upper Iowa University at Fayette for two years and finished his education at the Cedar Valley Seminary, which he attended three years, graduating in 1889.
The same year he and his brother, H. J. Starr, opened a store in Osage, where they continued in business for 25 years.
When this business was sold, Mr. Starr lived on his farm south of Osage for five years, after which he entered into partnership with Roscoe Starr in the ice cream and candy manufacturing business.
Because of failing health he then moved to California, where he has since lived until his death on Nov. 30, 1936.
He united wtih the First Baptist church at Ocean Park, Calif. and later the Trinity Baptist church at Santa Monica.
In 1890 he was united in marriage with Miss Edna Wheeland, of Arlington, Iowa. To this union were born six children -- Emma, of Santa Monica, Calif.; Ella, of El Segundo, Calif.; Earl G., of Jamestown, N. Dakota; Hugh F., of Onawa, Iowa, and Mrs. Josephine Werts, of Chicago, Illinois, and James W. who died in infancy. Four grandchildren survive -- James and Keith Starr, Grier Starr and Barbara Werts.
