Karl was born May 5, 1904, in Drayton, N.D., the son of Even O. and Karn (Vestre) Jorde. He was educated in the Drayton Public School, Drayton, N.D., and attended business college and Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis. Karl also attended night school in real estate and law in Minneapolis.

In 1925, he worked for Thorpe Bros. Real Estate in Minneapolis. From 1926 to 1935, Karl was with Texaco in the accounting and sales department. In 1936, he became employed by Ford Motor Co. in their sales department in Des Moines, later transferring to Ford's auditing department in Detroit, Mich.

In 1944, Karl and his wife, Evelyn, bought the Ford and Mercury Dealership in Osage and operated that business for 26 years until 1970.

On Nov. 25, 1933, Karl was united in marriage with Evelyn Blomsness in Des Moines. They had the "good fortune" to have been married for 66 years.

In 1963, Karl took great pride in serving as president of the Iowa Automobile Dealers Association. Karl's favorite pastime was golfing before and after his retirement.

For many years, he also looked forward to fishing with his friends in Canada. Hunting, target shooting, gardening and family outings at Spring Park were other activities that he enjoyed. He and Evelyn traveled over the years. His trip to Norway visiting family relatives was one of his most enjoyable times. He was a Norwegian through and through.
