KARL E. JORDE

OSAGE, IOWA - Karl E. Jorde, 96, of Osage died Tuesday (Feb. 20, 2001) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage of natural causes.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 833 Ash St., Osage, with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and the Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Interment will be in the Osage Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, 702 State St., Osage, and one hour before services on Saturday at the church.

Karl was born May 5, 1904, in Drayton, N.D., the son of Even O. and Karn (Vestre) Jorde. He was educated in the Drayton Public School, Drayton, N.D., and attended business college and Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis. Karl also attended night school in real estate and law in Minneapolis.

In 1925, he worked for Thorpe Bros. Real Estate in Minneapolis. From 1926 to 1935, Karl was with Texaco in the accounting and sales department. In 1936, he became employed by Ford Motor Co. in their sales department in Des Moines, later transferring to Ford's auditing department in Detroit, Mich.

In 1944, Karl and his wife, Evelyn, bought the Ford and Mercury Dealership in Osage and operated that business for 26 years until 1970.

On Nov. 25, 1933, Karl was united in marriage with Evelyn Blomsness in Des Moines. They had the "good fortune" to have been married for 66 years.

Karl was involved in a variety of professional and community organizations. He was a faithful member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage. He was a councilman in Osage in 1945 and 1946.

Karl was a charter member of the Osage Rotary, the Osage Development Corporation, and of the Osage Municipal Gas Committee. He also served as a district delegate of the Boy Scouts of America, and was past president of Sunny Brae Golf and Country Club in Osage.

In 1963, Karl took great pride in serving as president of the Iowa Automobile Dealers Association. Karl's favorite pastime was golfing before and after his retirement.

For many years, he also looked forward to fishing with his friends in Canada. Hunting, target shooting, gardening and family outings at Spring Park were other activities that he enjoyed. He and Evelyn traveled over the years. His trip to Norway visiting family relatives was one of his most enjoyable times. He was a Norwegian through and through.

Karl is survived by a daughter, Karen Ristau and her husband, Arlyn, of Waverly; and their sons, Randy Ristau, of Missoula, Mont., and Christopher Ristau and his wife, Tina, of Denver, Iowa; and a son, Erik Jorde and his wife, Sally, of Longview, Wash.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Evelyn; as well as eight brothers, Louis, Clarence, Melville, George, Ted, Willard, Ford and Alton; and three sisters, Ruby, Nettie, and Elaine.
