JOSEPHINE MAAKESTAD

MITCHELL - Josephine Maakestad, 86, of Mitchell, died Thursday, February 22, 2001, at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home in Stacyville. Josephine was born December 24, 1914, in Racine, Wis., the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Krapa) Mostek.

As a small child she moved with her family from Racine to Mitchell, where she attended school.

She was united in marriage to Lenard Maakestad on October 5, 1934, in Osage. They farmed and lived throughout Mitchell County over the years. They were the parents of three children, Jeannette, Lowell and Franklin.

Josephine loved gardening, tending to her animals and spending time with her family and friends.

The funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Faith Lutheran Church in Mitchell, with the Rev. Rose Marie Nack officiating. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 1:30 to 3 p.m. today at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, 702 State St. in Osage, and one hour before services on Saturday at the church.

Josephine is survived by one son, Franklin Maakestad, of Mitchell; one sister, Francis Krech, of Minneapolis; two brothers, Joseph Mostek Sr. and his wife, Lois, of Mitchell, and Robert John Mostek and his wife, Ileen, of Osage; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lenard; one son, Lowell; one daughter, Jeannette; one granddaughter, Lori; three brothers and three sisters.
