Jan moved his church membership by certificate from First Reformed Pella to Bethel Church near Otley on 4-10-1871. Jan did lay preaching at this church. He had his own large pulpit Bible. This was soon after his fourth marriage to Grietje Verdught Dunnick.
Jan is burried in Graceland Cemetery, Pella next to the plot to Grietje. He was 77 years, 3 months and 7 days old. We do not know where his previous three wifes and his deceased children were buried.
