Thank you everybody for the response. I didn't even think of horse racing...really makes sense. I just wonder why it looks like a stop sign...might just be a coincidence. Thought it may have been an annual event with the first one being in 1891, don't know. My grandparents who had this ticket weren't in the U.S. or Iowa until 1911.
