In Response To: CAVANAUGH, Patrick & Sarah (Susan Cavanagh Larkin)

Just ran across your inquiry and think there may be some connection through Sarah Cavenaugh. However, your note shows Cavenaugh married Sarah O'BRIEN, born about 1873 in Iowa County, IA which matches Victor, Iowa of my great-grandparents but the date varies somewhat since the Sarah Jane O'Brien, a/k/a Sadie, as I have it, was born in 1882 in one source or 1870 in another source.

My name is Francine O'Brien Andersen, born in Whittemore, Iowa and now of Audubon, Iowa. My father was Edmund James O’Brien of Whittemore, Iowa. He was the son of James John O'Brien, born in Victor, Iowa (Iowa County)in 1870 and Catherien (correct spelling) O’Brien. The parents of James J. O'Brien were Timothy O’Brien and Hannorah (Liddy) O’Brien. Timothy and Hannorah O'Brien bought the O’Brien farm in Lotts Creek Township one and one-half miles north of Whittemore, Iowa on September 20, 1882. The O’Brien Farm north of Whittemore turned 125 years old in Fall of 2007.

Okay, starting with Timothy O’Brien (my great-grandfather), information I have is that he was born in County Kerry, Ireland in 1834 and died at Whittemore, Iowa on April 18, 1887 (List of Heirs in his probate file state his death date as April 21, 1887, guardianship filing for Timothy H. O’Brien says April 19, 1887). Timothy O'Brien immigrated to America to La Salle, Illinois at the age of *. In 1861 he was married to Hannorah Liddy (tombstone) Honorah Liddy, a/k/a Hannorah Liddy (age 46 at his death so born in approximately 1841; confirmed by tombstone). They moved to Victor, Iowa and later to a farm at Whittemore, Iowa. On September 20, 1882 he purchased the O’Brien Farm from
Benjamin B. Richards and Mary Eveleen Richards, George Burden and Eliza A. Burden for $2,560: North half of Section 31 in Twp 96 North of Range 30, West of the 5th P.M.(Later Trust Deeds say NE 1/4 of Section 31... Guardianship references N1/2 of NE 1/4 of Section 31 and shows Deed to James on February 8, 1906 of South ½ of the NE1/4 of Section 31 to James) His wife’s name was spelled “Honora” O’Brien in real estate and Court documents and Hannorah in others and Hanorah in others). Hannorah (Liddy) O’Brien is listed as born in County Clare, Ireland, in 1841. She died on September 1, 1924.They are buried in St. Michael’s Cemetery, one mile north and 1/2 mile west of Whittemore.

The obituary of Sister Mary Catherine O’Brien, a/k/a Mary Agnes O’Brien, a Sister of Humility at Ottumwa, mentions that she was the daughter of Daniel O’Brien of Killarney, Ireland and that Daniel O’Brien was a brother of Timothy O’Brien, who settled north of Whittemore about the year 1880.
