Sorry, no obit that I can see or find, nor mention of birth of son, and no mention of her marriage to Tjark Kray, in Monticello Express. I would assume the spelling to be right in Wayne Zion books---Schmidt. Why he is refered to as John Smith in her obit, I have no idea, or why the son's name would be spelled Smith.
I find lots of "errors" in name spellings so this is probably just another one.
