Thanks for checking. I looked at all of them but they aren't my William Lyle. He was born around 1824 in Ireland and died between 1861 and 1870. His family was living in Oxford, Johnson, Iowa in 1860. I wonder if he was killed in the Civil War and not brought home for burial. I haven't found any Civil War records for him yet either. I'd expect an enlistment even if he wasn't buried in IA.
But his brother Matthew died between 1856 and 1860 while living in Oxford and I didn't find any burials at all for a Matthew Lyle.
Thanks again! I didn't know about the Iowa WPA graves site. Very helpful.
