I will be at johnson county recorders office thurseday and am also working on another adoption. Iif you scan down through the queries for johnson conty you should find the other adoption I'm working on (MILLMEYEr) we are now emailind directly so everythingisn't out there in thepublic. as the adopted woman is stil living and 83. have you ever gotten a photo copy of exactly waht your brother has. sometimes if a genealogist sees it it isn't as it looks. the other adoption they thought they had birth record but it was a delayed birth cert. made from baby's baptism records. she also thought she had adoption papers but she did not have the papersthat birth mother would have signed to givebaby up. she was working out of Iowa city for birth and dubuque for adotpion. I looked at usgenweb for dubuque and there is a place on their site that said for adoptions etc. you had to write to dept. of vital records or some place in des moines. so they have now written a letter to that fact. I've never heard of white house for orphans in IC but I wasn't born untl 1942. you can start by emailing IC ppublic library and ask the reference people if they now anything about it. libraries are very good about looking things up for you. also do you have your mom's death record and obiturary or her parents obituary. check everyones obituraries out and ask many family members some one might know something. my dad had a half sister and until I started researching he didn't know his dad had been married before. keep me in contact and I'll try to ask your questions
