I always suspected that Michael Peebler Sr. probably died around 1851 - 1852 because his son, David Peebler, my g.g. grandfather moved with his entire family plus friends to Oregon in 1853. David had a lot of property in Iowa. He was quite important in his church. So I think he might have moved on to Oregon partly because his father died. Of course, Michael might have died later and David moved on because he simply wanted to see what was on the other side of the mountain. I have one piece of writing that suggests that he knew the grass grew as high as a horses shoulders in Oregon. He was 50 years old in 1853 so the hard task of moving to Oregon in those days would not have been an easy decision, I am sure.
