KURTZ Rites Thursday At East Pleasant Plain

BRIGHTON -- Funeral services for Mrs. Joseph T. KURTZ, 72, of Pleasant Plain who died at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Mercy Hospital at Iowa City will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain at 9 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Paul Wetzstein in charge.

The body will be taken from the Hoskins Funeral Home at Brighton to the family home near Pleasant Plain today where the rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. today. Burial will be in the St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Mrs. KURTZ had been a patient in Mercy Hospital 14 days. She had been in failing health for some time, but seriously ill the past six weeks.

Veronica FRITZ was born July 6, 1883, on a farm south of Brighton, the daughter of Peter and Angeline OSWILER FRITZ. She was married to Joseph T. KURTZ April 12, 1910 and spent all her married life on the farm near Pleasant Plain. Mr. KURTZ preceded her in death in 1945.

Survivors include one son, Paul KURTZ near Fairfield, three daughters, Bernetta at home, Mrs. Leona KRON of near Iowa City and Bertaha (sic - Bertha) KURTZ of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren, one sister, Miss Emma FRITZ of East Pleasant Plain and one half-brother, Joseph FRITZ of California.

Mrs. KURTZ was preceded in death by her husband and one infant son.
