Peter KURTZ Dies at East Pleasant Plain*

BRIGHTON, July 22 -- Peter H. KURTZ, 66, died at his home one-half mile south of East Pleasant Plain, last evening at 7:10. His death was caused by heart trouble and hardening of the arteries. He had been ill since April 1935.

He was born at Germanville Iowa, March 2, 1870, the son of Peter and Carolyn WEYER KURTZ. On February 21, 1898, he was married to Anna M. PACHA, and they went to housekeeping in the home where he died.

Surviving besides his wife are three daughters, Marjorie, Washington, D.C., Beatrice Mae, Burlington, Betty, at home two sons, Jerome G., near Pleasant Plain, Victor E., at home; three brothers, Anthony, Osage, Iowa, John and Frank both of the Pleasant Plain community; three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth FRITZ, Burlington, Mrs. J. KESSELL, Mrs. Don MANNHARDT, both Pleasant Plain; and one granddaughter, Janet KURTZ. One daughter, Blanche, preceded him in death in 1931.

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at the St. Joseph's church, conducted by Rev. Charles MANNHARDT of Ft. Madison, nephew of Mr. KURTZ. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.

*Note: Peter may have been stricken and/or died at his home in Jefferson County, but his Death Certificate indicates he died in Mt. Pleasant State Hospital, in Henry County. His D.C. also gives his birthday as March 3rd as opposed to the March 2nd noted above; died July 21st, age 66y 4m 18d.
