Donald K. ATWOOD, 87, of rural Fairfield, died Wednesday evening, April 26, 2017, at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.

Arrangements are pending at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Donald Kenneth ATWOOD

Donald Kenneth ATWOOD, age 91 of rural Fairfield, died Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.

Don was born August 11, 1925 in Fairfield, the son of Irwin and Genevieve GASTON ATWOOD.

He lived his entire life in Jefferson County. He was a 1943 graduate of the Packwood High School. He was a farmer his entire life.

Don married Eunice Grace TREESE on October 10, 1948 at the Packwood Methodist Church. She preceded him in death on June 24, 2014.

He was a member of Packwood United Methodist Church which later merged to become Prairie View United Methodist Church. He was very active in many roles from Sunday School teacher to board president, was an active member of the Methodist Men, and served on the district board of Buildings and Grounds of the Ottumwa Dsitict (sic) of the UMC. He was a founding board member of the Farm Service board for 25 years, Jefferson County Fair Board for 16 years, a 4-H leader for 10 years, past township trustee, member and past president of the Jefferson County Farm Bureau, served on the Access Energy board for 27 years, serving as board president for 3 years. He was a member of the Jefferson County Board of Review and the compensation board. He was a founding member and lifelong member of the Packwood Lions Club and received numerous awards, including the Warren Coleman Award and the Lions International Foundation Melvin Jones Fellow award.

He was active in sports throughout his whole life. One of his early accomplishments was being named to baseball's all-state tournament team in 1941.

Deceased members of his family include his wife, Eunice, son Norman ATWOOD, his parents and a sister Margaret Jean ATWOOD who died in infancy.

Surviving are his daughters: Gayle (Dale) OLSON of Webster City, IA and Zoe Ann (Bill) MORITZ of Fairfield and daughter-in-law Dorian ATWOOD of Fairfield. 3 grandchildren: Jeremy ATWOOD, Aaron OLSON and Amy DOOLITTLE; 5 great grandchildren, and his brother Wayne (Judy) ATWOOD of Packwood, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Monday at Prairie View United Methodist Church, near Ollie with Pastor Dave Peterson officiating.

Burial will be in the Packwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. at the church.

Memorials may be given to HCI Hospice of Mt. Pleasant or to the Jefferson County 4-H.

Arrangements are in the care of the Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.
