David 'Max' WOODS

David "Max" WOODS, 83, of Fairfield, died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, at Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield, with the Rev. Dianne Brokken and the Rev. Calvin Helterbran officiating. Military rites will follow the service. Burial will be at Campground Cemetery near Memphis, Missouri.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family. Cards and memorials can be sent to Randy WOODS, 2261 Hemlock Ave., Batavia 52533. Online condolences can be made to the family at www.behnerfh.com.

Mr. WOODS was born April 19, 1933, in Downing, Missouri, the son of David Edward and Rosie STONE WOODS. He married Norma June HYDE Jan. 15, 1956, in Missouri. She died Nov. 19, 2014.

Mr. WOODS has lived in the Fairfield community since 1972, with his previous residence in Packwood. He managed Home Oil Short Stop in Fairfield for 33 years.

He enjoyed horses, farming, loved all his animals, collected quarters, and was a member of the Lockridge Rough Riders horse club.

He attended the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Mr. WOODS served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War (sic - Vietnam Conflict).

Survivors include: two children, Randy Max WOODS with Teresa of Batavia, and Janet Kay WOODS of Keosauqua; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Elmer WOODS of Yuma, Arizona; and one sister, Irene KELLER of Donnellson.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.
