Walter P. PACHA

Walter P. PACHA 94, formerly of Brighton, died Wednesday morning, Sept. 7, 2016, at Halcyon House in Washington, Iowa (note: in Washington Co., IA).

A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain, with the Rev. Robert Striegel officiating. Burial will be at a later date in St. Joseph Cemetery in East Pleasant Plain.

Prayers for a Christian wake will begin at 6 p.m. friday, at the church, followed by visitation until 8 p.m.

Memorials to St. Joseph Cemetery or Brighton Volunteer First Responders can be left at the church or mailed to the family at 1266 Yew Ave., Brighton 52540.

Gould Funeral Home of Brighton is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. PACHA was born Aug. 13, 1922, in Jefferson County near Brighton, the son of Albert and Teresa Agnes FRITZ PACHA. He married Helen Darlene WIKOFF May 12, 1945, in East Pleasant Plain. She died July 24, 2013.

Mr. PACHA grew up near Pleasant Plain and graduated from Pleasant Plain High School in 1941.

He worked at Oscar Mayer, John Morrell and as a farmhand near Davenport for a short time before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He served in the South Pacific during World War II.

He began farming for himself after returning from the Navy and farmed for most of his life.

Mr. PACHA was a member of the American Legion, Brighton Lions Club, Knights of Columbus and St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Survivors include: two daughters, Dianna PACHA of Washington, Iowa, and Melinda PACHA-ANDERSON and husband Blair of Royal Oaks, Michigan; two sons, Tom PACHA and wife Miriam of Brighton and Mike PACHA and wife Cathy of Libertyville; five grandchildren; four great-grandcihldren; four sisters, Mary Catherine ADAM of Fairfield, Joan PETERSON of Newton, Edna SIEREN of Keota and Geraldine SCHELLER of Emporia, Kansas; and four brothers, Don PACHA of Fairfield, Maurice PACHA and Merle PACHA, both of Washington, Iowa, and Gerald PACHA of Brighton.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by: his parents; one daughter, Deborah COX; and two brothers, Bob and infant Jerome.
