Imogene PEACOCK, 79, of Douds, died at 12:26 a.m. today, Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016, at Bloomfield Care Center (note: in Davis Co., IA).

Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua.

Imogene PEACOCK

D. Imogene PEACOCK, 79, of Douds, died at 12:26 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016, at Bloomfield Care Center, where she had resided since March 9, 2015.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Christ United Methodist Church in Douds, with the Rev. Herb Shafer officiating.

Open visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Friday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds. The family will receive friends 10-11 a.m. saturday at the church prior to the service.

Memorials to Oak Grove Church and School restoration or Van Buren Elementary School Library can be left at the funeral home or church or mailed to the family at PO Box 38, Douds 52551.

Mrs. PEACOCK was born Sept. 11, 1936, in the Oak Grove neighborhood east of Douds, the daughter of Lester V. and Erma POOL HOOTMAN. She married Wendell W. PEACOCK May 29, 1960, in Oak Grove Church. He died Jan. 2, 2016.

Mrs. PEACOCK grew up in the Oak Grove area and graduated from Birmingham High School. She also graduated from Parsons College.

She and her husband lived their married life in Douds. She taught elementary grades in a rural Keosauqua country school, then taught in Douds and Stockport centers of Van Buren community schools. She retired in 1992.

Mrs. PEACOCK was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, where she had served as Sunday school superintendent.

She was a member of the Iowa and national education associations, Delta Kappa Gamma sorority, and Van Buren County Retired Teachers Association. She served on the board of White Chapel Cemetery, east of Douds.

Survivors include: one daughter, Karoline THORNSBERRY and husband David of Douds; four grandchildren; and one brother, Wayne HOOTMAN of rural Douds.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by: two brothers, Dennis and Darrell HOOTMAN; and one sister, Juanita HOOTMAN.
