Wendell W. PEACOCK

Wendell W. PEACOCK, 75, formerly of Douds, died at 6:14 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, at Bloomfield Care Center where he had resided since January 2015.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Mike Mosier officiating. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery west of Keosauqua.

Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, with family present prior to the service.

Memorials to Douds First Responders or Lebanon Cemetery can be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at PO Box 38, Douds 52551.

Mr. PEACOCK was born Aug. 25, 1940, in Ottumwa, the son of Rex and Agnes SANDY PEACOCK. He married Dolores Imogene HOOTMAN May 29, 1960, in Oak Grove Church east of Douds.

Mr. PEACOCK graduated from Keosauqua High School in 1958.

He operated a service station and fertilizer plant in Douds, farmed, drove a rock truck and served as Douds postmaster, retiring in 1999.

He served as Douds fire chief, was active in Douds Community Club and Field Day Association and had been a first responder and a Mason. He was a member of National Association of Postmasters and National League of Postmasters.

Mr. PEACOCK was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: one daughter, Karoline THORNSBERRY and husband David of Douds; four grandchildren; one sister, Mina ZOLLARS of Keosauqua; and one brother, Paul PEACOCK of Lodi, California.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; two brothers, Royale and Karl PEACOCK; and one sister, Henrietta BENTZINGER.

He was born August 25, 1940 in Ottumwa to Rex and Agnes SANDY PEACOCK and married Dolores Imogene HOOTMAN May 29, 1960 in Oak Grove Church east of Douds. Wendell graduated from Keosauqua High School in 1958, operated a service station and fertilizer plant in Dounds, farmed, drove a rock truck and served as Douds Postmaster, retiring in 1999. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, served as Douds Fire Chief, was active in Douds Community Club and Field Day Association and had been a first responder and a Mason. He was also a member of National Assn. of Postmasters and National League of Postmasters.

Surviving are his wife, Imogene of the care center, a daughter, Karoline THORNSBERRY (David) of Douds, four grandchildren, Ryan THORNSBERRY of Cantril and Sarah, Taylor and Zane THORNSBERRY at home, a sister, Mina ZOLLARS of Keosauqua, a brother, Paul PEACOCK (Linda) of Lodi, CA, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Royale and Karl PEACOCK and a sister, Henrietta BENTZINGER.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday January 6, 2016 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua with Pastor Mike Mosier officiating. Visitation will be open 4-6 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home and 1-2 P.M. Wednesday with family present prior to the service. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery west of Keosauqua (note: in Van Buren Co., IA). Memorials to Douds First Responders or Lebanon Cemetery may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at P.O. Box 38, Douds, IA 52551.
